More reports of potential job losses

We have recevied information of further potential job losses at the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, the Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Care Trust and West Wiltshire Primary Care Trust and the Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

However, we have not included any figures as yet in our totals, until we receive confirmation from the Trusts themselves.

If confirmed these new figures will push the total back over the 10,000 mark!

Our current running total, live on the Internet since 1st April 2006 currently stands at 9,699.

Correction to Job Loss figures

We received information yesterday afternoon (26th April) from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust that they have not and will not be cutting any Jobs at their trust and therefore we have removed their entry from our table. Along with the news that the number of jobs that will be lost at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust has been revised to a lower figure of 450 (instead of the original 700 discussed in the media), we see a reduced total number of NHS Job losses.

Current total of Job Losses now stands at 9,459 since we first started tracking these numbers at the beginning April.

Total reported job losses in the NHS pass the 10,000 level.

We discovered that we had overlooked an announcement by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust of 640 (see info at bottom of linked page) job losses, this pushes the total of NHS job losses over the 10,000 mark since we first stared tracking these numbers at the beginning of April.

This total does not include Hospitals/Trusts that have announced job losses, but as yet have not release any figures.

Current total of Job Losses now stands at 10,279 since we first started tracking these numbers at the beginning April.

NHS Job Loss total now stands at 9,389!

We were surprised over the weekend to see various comments in the main stream press that the NHS Job losses was running at around 7,000, or just over. This made us wonder if we had made a mistake with our information gathering and our current total. So over the weekend we re-checked our sources of information, all of which is publicly available and reconfirmed the numbers at each Trust/Hospital that we have listed. We can reconfirm that the current total in as stated 9,389!

This total does not include a number of Trusts/Hospitals that we have listed in the table, but as yet have been unable to confirm any actual Job Loss numbers. We will update these as soon as we received new information.

We were also told by Blogger.com over the weekend, that this Blog has been flagged as a 'spam blog', which is a surprise to us, as clearly it is not. We have replied to Blogger.com about this and await the rectification of this error.

In the meantime, we continue to track various aspects of the NHS including an updating of our Car Parking charges table.

Call for review of NHS IT upgrade!

Now we have a problem with the IT upgrade?

Leading on from the original article in Computer Weekly other news organisations (BBC etc.) are now reporting more background information.

We have been looking at various aspects of the NHS IT upgrade over a long period and although the linking of more than 30,000 GPs in England to nearly 300 hospitals by 2012 is usually the main subject put forward, there is much more to the IT upgrade.

For example, the electronic viewing of X-Ray images - saving on transportation of film X-Rays images from storage buildings, many miles away! Allowing NHS clinicians access to commercial online clinical databases - helping with faster diagnosis of illnesses. Upgrading the basic hardware of the NHS, such as networking and other peripheral equipment.

With such a huge organisation, it should not be a surprise to anyone that there will be some implementation issues, but of course the 'devil is in the detail'. We're going to look at the details of the claims of the 'academics' see what we can find out and we'll post what we find out here.

If you have any feedback on the 'IT Upgrade' then let us know by posting your comments here.
